Response to Oakland Occupy Movement
First off, I heard about the about the Oakland Occupy Movement, but never new what was actually happening. After watching the first video showing how everyone is protesting and it was peaceful, but their was no violence which had me surprised because I always thought something wrong always happens when people protest. Unfortunately, with the next video we watched in class was very disappointing to see how people were screaming and running around because the police had used weapons. This weapon had hurt Scott Olsen who now has to deal with severe medical conditions. Because of the weapons the police officer used it caused this man to lose his chance to have employment and do other things that he was able to do before his injury. All these people that were present at this protest were just trying to fight for their rights and voice their opinions. Is it not our right to have freedom of speech? Even if we try to speak up there is always someone who is going to fight against and some may use violence to shut the other peoples mouth. My concern is that will we ever be able to speak our minds without having to face violence. Mahatma Gandhi was able to fight for his country without any use of violence. Then why can't we do the same thing as him?
